We built Fathom from the very start to be privacy-focused and easy to use. Our business model is honest yet unusual for the startup scene: we charge a fair price for our software (instead of giving it away for free, then selling your data to generate revenue).

Our customers come first because they're our only investors. We don't have venture capital funding, bank loans, or other shareholders we answer to. Instead, we're happily independent and bootstrapped.

We grow sustainably when our customers tell their friends about Fathom, agencies start using us for all their client websites, or when reviewers try several analytics products and end up choosing us. This is the way we like it.

By supporting a company like ours, you are taking a step towards a shared vision of the internet that aligns with ours: away from the watchful eyes of big tech, based on trust and privacy, and all without compromising reliability, speed or quality of support.

Fathom began as an idea that a tech company could be run and grow without compromising our values. Fathom started as an analytics product that could be privacy-focused and simple without compromising the value of its data.

We're proud of how we run our business, sell our product and serve our customers. And of course, we hope you'll join us.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I use the same plan for multiple websites?**

Yes. Sites on a plan share your monthly page views. The larger pageview plans include more sites, and you can add extra site packs from billing if you need them.

**How long do you store my analytics data?**

Forever, as long as you are a customer. You can access your data all the way back to when you signed up. 7 days, or even 30 days, doesn't show you if your site is trending up or down, which is why we keep your analytics history. Export it before you cancel if you leave.

**Why is Fathom better than European-only providers?**

Our [data isolation](https://usefathom.com/features/data-isolation) routes EU visitor traffic through EU infrastructure. Visitors elsewhere are routed through our global infrastructure, so they can connect closer to home. This helps keep analytics fast for visitors around the world.

**What happens if I go over my page view limit?**

We never charge for occasional traffic spikes, and we don't shut your account off if you hit your plan limit early. For substantial or sustained overages, we email you to request an upgrade. You approve the plan change yourself. If it isn't resolved, dashboard and API access can be restricted while we keep collecting. See our [plan-limits guide](https://usefathom.com/docs/account/limits) for the details.

**Why isn't Fathom free like Google Analytics?**

If you aren't paying for a product, you are the product. That's why Google Analytics is free, because they make enough money off the personal data their customers give them by using their analytics service. We charge a small and sustainable fee for Fathom because our business model is selling software, not data. Our customers gladly pay for our service because they know their data is safe with us and their visitors' privacy is protected.

**Why does digital privacy even matter?**

You may think that digital privacy doesn't matter because you have nothing to hide. And that may be true (to some extent), but your data shouldn't be monetised and sold by giant tech companies who are taking your tastes and preferences and selling them to advertisers. By using Fathom, you are making your website [a black hole to big tech](https://usefathom.com/blog/blackhole), meaning they cannot track any data about individuals who visit your website.

It was hard to understand, time-consuming to use, and worse, it exploited visitor data for big tech to profit.\n\n**Fathom is a Google Analytics alternative that doesn't compromise visitor privacy for data**. We revolutionized website analytics by making them easy to use and respectful of privacy laws (like GDPR and more).\n\n[Start free trial](https://app.usefathom.com/register) [View a live demo](https://app.usefathom.com/demo) 7 day free trial   No cookie notices required   GDPR Compliant## European analytics\n\nOur entire company is built on putting digital privacy first. Your EU traffic is automatically routed [through European-owned infrastructure](https://usefathom.com/features/data-isolation), and our Canadian company has GDPR adequacy ruling. Plus, we're GDPR, CCPA, ePrivacy, PECR (and more) compliant.\n\n## See more of your visitors\n\nPlenty of analytics tools miss real people because of blockers, cookies and sampling. Fathom is built to show you [human visits](https://usefathom.com/features), so you get a clearer picture of who's on your site without invading anyone's privacy.\n\n## Our script is fast\n\nOur embed code loads faster than Google Analytics, meaning we're better for [your SEO](https://usefathom.com/blog/google-analytics-seo) than they are. The script loads from all over the world, from the place closest to the person visiting your site.\n\n## We sell software, not data\n\nThis is why we created [anonymous pageview tracking](https://usefathom.com/data) that doesn't collect or store personal data (we have no use for it). Because of this, Fathom doesn't require annoying cookie notices.\n\n[See all our features](https://usefathom.com/features) [Why choose Fathom?](https://usefathom.com/why-fathom-analytics/web-analytics-software) The best [Google Analytics alternative](https://usefathom.com/features/vs-google-analytics) with a focus on privacy.## See all of your sites at a glance\n\nSee every site on your account on a single screen with our [all-sites view](https://usefathom.com/docs/features/all-sites). This includes totals for things like current visitors and bounce rate. Get everything you need about all your sites in a single place.\n\n## No cookie banners needed\n\nCookie banners are ugly and annoying. Fathom doesn’t use cookies, so no consent banner is required for your analytics. Learn more about [how we protect visitor privacy](https://usefathom.com/data).\n\n## Send email reports\n\nSend yourself, your customers, or your coworkers email reports for a single site or multiple sites on your account. That way, you or anyone else can keep track of your analytics without logging in.\n\n## Ads, newsletters & ecommerce\n\nUse [UTMs](https://usefathom.com/docs/features/campaigns) to collect information about how your ad campaigns are doing, what links in your newsletter are being clicked, and more. You can even use [events](https://usefathom.com/docs/events/overview) to collect data from ecommerce sales.\n\n## Unlimited data retention\n\nWe keep your analytics history for as long as you’re a customer. That means you can view or [export your data](https://usefathom.com/docs/features/exporting) from when you started using Fathom until right now, even if that’s 30 years of data.\n\n## Lightweight script for great SEO\n\nOur script is much smaller than Google Analytics, so it’s [great for SEO](https://usefathom.com/blog/google-analytics-seo). Using Fathom as a [Google Analytics alternative](https://usefathom.com/features/vs-google-analytics) helps keep your website fast.\n\n## Getting started with Fathom is easy\n\nGain valuable insights into your website or web application all without spying on anyone in just a few, quick steps. And, if you get stuck, our support is always on hand to help you get things up and running.\n\nStep 1### Sign up for an account\n\nStart with a 7-day free trial, then [pricing](https://usefathom.com/pricing) starts at $15/month.\n\nStep 2### Add our script\n\nIt's [a single line of code](https://usefathom.com/docs/script/embed) that works with every site, web app and CMS.\n\nStep 3### See your stats\n\nYour [Fathom dashboard](https://usefathom.com/docs/start/dashboard) will start showing you real-time data.\n\n[![Fathom analytics dashboard](https://usefathom.com/_astro/dash-full-light.E2fvbti7_Z2fDgXS.webp)](https://app.usefathom.com/demo)\n\n## Fathom is trusted by thousands of businesses to power their privacy-first website analytics\n\nWhat kind of companies use Fathom? Our business model is honest yet unusual for the startup scene: we charge a fair price for our software (instead of giving it away for free, then selling your data to generate revenue).\n\nOur customers come first because they're our only investors. We don't have venture capital funding, bank loans, or other shareholders we answer to. Instead, we're happily independent and bootstrapped.\n\nWe grow sustainably when our customers tell their friends about Fathom, agencies start using us for all their client websites, or when reviewers try several analytics products and end up choosing us. This is the way we like it.\n\nBy supporting a company like ours, you are taking a step towards a shared vision of the internet that aligns with ours: away from the watchful eyes of big tech, based on trust and privacy, and all without compromising reliability, speed or quality of support.\n\nFathom began as an idea that a tech company could be run and grow without compromising our values. Fathom started as an analytics product that could be privacy-focused and simple without compromising the value of its data.\n\nWe're proud of how we run our business, sell our product and serve our customers. And of course, we hope you'll join us.\n\n[Jack](https://usefathom.com/author/jack-ellis),\nfounder of Fathom\n\n![Jack Ellis](https://usefathom.com/assets/responsive/59944cd0048b76c9-80.webp)\n\n## Frequently asked questions\n\n**Can I use the same plan for multiple websites?**\n\nYes. Sites on a plan share your monthly page views. The larger pageview plans include more sites, and you can add extra site packs from billing if you need them.\n\n**How long do you store my analytics data?**\n\nForever, as long as you are a customer. You can access your data all the way back to when you signed up. 7 days, or even 30 days, doesn't show you if your site is trending up or down, which is why we keep your analytics history. Export it before you cancel if you leave.\n\n**Why is Fathom better than European-only providers?**\n\nOur [data isolation](https://usefathom.com/features/data-isolation) routes EU visitor traffic through EU infrastructure. Visitors elsewhere are routed through our global infrastructure, so they can connect closer to home. This helps keep analytics fast for visitors around the world.\n\n**What happens if I go over my page view limit?**\n\nWe never charge for occasional traffic spikes, and we don't shut your account off if you hit your plan limit early. For substantial or sustained overages, we email you to request an upgrade. You approve the plan change yourself. If it isn't resolved, dashboard and API access can be restricted while we keep collecting. See our [plan-limits guide](https://usefathom.com/docs/account/limits) for the details.\n\n**Why isn't Fathom free like Google Analytics?**\n\nIf you aren't paying for a product, you are the product. That's why Google Analytics is free, because they make enough money off the personal data their customers give them by using their analytics service. We charge a small and sustainable fee for Fathom because our business model is selling software, not data. Our customers gladly pay for our service because they know their data is safe with us and their visitors' privacy is protected.\n\n**Why does digital privacy even matter?**\n\nYou may think that digital privacy doesn't matter because you have nothing to hide. And that may be true (to some extent), but your data shouldn't be monetised and sold by giant tech companies who are taking your tastes and preferences and selling them to advertisers. By using Fathom, you are making your website [a black hole to big tech](https://usefathom.com/blog/blackhole), meaning they cannot track any data about individuals who visit your website.\n\n**Want to learn more about Fathom?**\n\n## Website analytics deserved better, so we built a better website analytics tool\n\nFathom is easy-yet-powerful website analytics that protects digital privacy. And, if you get stuck, our support is always on hand to help you get things up and running.\n\nStep 1### Sign up for an account\n\nStart with a 7-day free trial, then [pricing](https://usefathom.com/pricing) starts at $15/month.\n\nStep 2### Add our script\n\nIt's [a single line of code](https://usefathom.com/docs/script/embed) that works with every site, web app and CMS.\n\nStep 3### See your stats\n\nYour [Fathom dashboard](https://usefathom.com/docs/start/dashboard) will start showing you real-time data.\n\n[![Fathom analytics dashboard](https://usefathom.com/_astro/dash-full-light.E2fvbti7_Z2fDgXS.webp)](https://app.usefathom.com/demo)\n\n[Learn how our dashboard works](https://usefathom.com/docs/start/dashboard)\n\n## Fathom is trusted by thousands of businesses to power their privacy-first website analytics\n\nWhat kind of companies use Fathom? By using Fathom, you are making your website [a black hole to big tech](https://usefathom.com/blog/blackhole), meaning they cannot track any data about individuals who visit your website.\n\n**Want to learn more about Fathom?**\n\nNeed more information?
